socialjusticeHaiti Earthquake Relief

From our Senior Minister:

Horrendous damage and loss of life has hit the beleaguered nation of Haiti through a large earthquake. We can help in Haiti through the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.

From my own experience with calamitous hurricanes in Florida I learned this; if we are not trained and equipped “first responders,” the best thing we can do is to say put, donate, and hold the victims of natural disaster closely in our thoughts and prayers. We can be with the people of Haiti for the long haul. We can vow not to abandon them or forget them.

But for today, when the urge to go and help in a hands-on way can be so strong, today, our discipline is to be still and care deeply. Those of us who are able will make financial donations. Some of us may work with UUSC and the UUA in other ways. And a few of us may, eventually, travel to Haiti to help rebuild homes and hope.

For now, we keep vigil in our hearts. Who will help those most vulnerable? Our Unitarian Universalist Service Committee will reach out to those least likely to receive aid from other sources: child domestic workers, woman-headed households, and persons living with HIV/AIDS.

My love to each, Rev Gail R. Geisenhainer

The Energy Committee, on behalf of supporting donors, is submitting a proposal to develop a renewable energy installation on the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor  property. The plan considers multiple phases, which you can read about in full here.

There will be a Congregational Town Hall Meeting to discuss the Renewable  Energy Proposal on Sunday, March 7 at 1:00PM in the Phifer Sanctuary. We invite all members and friends to come and discuss more at the town hall meeting.
