[menscouncil] How the Scrip Program benefits the congregation

The Music Ministries provided a dinner to Alpha House last week. The Chalice Bells and Chalice Singers were asked to donate to cover the cost of the food being prepared. More than enough was given. 


Last Sunday, I was asked whether it would be a good idea to convert those excess donations to scrip for Alpha House. A resounding yes! It would be a great idea! Not only will Alpha House get the full benefit of the funds to use for their everyday purchases, but UUAA will receive rebates on the scrip (gift cards) purchased.

Scrip also works just for general purchases. When the YRUU sells their apple dumplings in the fall, the money is converted to Meijer scrip, which they then use to purchase Christmas gifts for the kids at Peace Neighborhood Center. 
Likewise, when Ilene Beninson requests donations for Adopt-a-Child at Christmas, the money is used to purchase the gift cards the kids have requested.

How might your group use scrip to help the congregation’s budget? Do you purchase food or supplies? Just know that the benefits come from working through the Scrip Program.

Special orders can be done, but shipping costs are over $10. If the special order can be combined with a bulk order for inventory, we’ll all save. Any UUAA group with a line item in the budget can order scrip by contacting me directly and requesting Deb to do a line-item transfer - no cash needs to change hands. As a group leader, you might consider ship-to-home-eligible cards - shipping is only about $1, but the payment needs to come from you, the purchaser, not from UUAA. 

Individuals can set up their own personal account with RaiseRight. Orders for the bulk inventory for the congregation go through me. Please contact me if you have any questions.

**Sandy Eyl uses e-certificates for Alpha House. I order GrubHub e-certificates for her and direct RaiseRight to email the link to the certificates directly to Alpha House. They can then print out the certificates and give them to families as they successfully check out of Alpha House to claim their new living facilities.
