A 2024 Congregation-wide Effort
There simply isn’t enough stable, safe, affordable housing in Washtenaw County. What is UUAA doing to build a solution?
We are supporting families in transitional housing – through our Alpha House program. And we are helping these families move from transitional housing to permanent housing.
We are building more safe, affordable, climate-friendly housing – through our Habitat for Humanity program.
We are advocating to remove housing barriers for those returning from prison – through our Restorative Justice program.
We are helping newly arrived refugee families find housing – through our Immigration Action Coalition.
- We are advocating with the City Council to provide more resources for low-income and transitional housing.
- We are pressing for more middle-income housing so workers like teachers and nurses can find a home in Ann Arbor.
And what more could UUAA do?
- We could provide resources for winter warming shelters for those living on the streets in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. There is a community coalition already at work. Could we join them?
- We could provide resources for roving hot-food and shower trucks for those living in their cars. There is a former minister already devoted to this effort. Could we support her work?
