CommUUnity Resistance and Response Summit Follow-Up
The Board of Trustees partnered with the Visions of Justice Council, the Immigration Action Coalition, and other UUAA leaders to host a CommUUnity Resistance and Response Summit on March 21.
Over 100 members of our UUAA community gathered on a Saturday morning. Together, we explored emerging needs and potential responses amid current and potentially escalating ICE activity in our area. We also sang resistance songs and held a space for kids and youth to engage with ideas about protest and create buttons and candles to support the community’s work.
We introduced a framework for developing four teams to activate in various situations of greater need:
- Triage & Coordination
- Practical Needs Support
- Emotional and Relational Support
- Policy Advocacy & Education
The group that planned the summit is now working on the next steps, including defining what is distinct about this effort compared to what existing UUAA groups are doing and gathering the individuals who expressed interest in helping lead the four teams to continue organizing and planning.
Email bot@uuaa.org for any questions or to request access to the recording of the main summit program.
