Alpha House Updates
Thank you to everyone who made our November host week and Thanksgiving meal special at Alpha House West, a shelter for families experiencing temporary homelessness. It took an army of cooks and in-person volunteers!
Below are two updates with ways you can help:
- Help families who have moved out of Alpha House this year by providing gift cards so they can buy holiday gifts for their own kids. You can donate on Realm to the fund Alpha House – Holiday Wishes or send checks to UUAA, with “Holiday Wishes” in the memo line. Funds will be turned into Meijer gift cards through the Scrip Program. Donations are requested by December 10, but accepted throughout December.
- At the new Alpha House East location: floors, lighting, and bathroom fixtures have been updated! Now it’s time to furnish 30 rooms with beds and everything else a family needs. Find out how you can help at the Towsley Volunteers Signup. Families will move in after the rooms are furnished. Congregations won’t be expected to provide meals for the 30 families at the East location, but most families with school-age kids will move East, as will children’s activity time. Alpha House West (on Jackson Road) will focus on pregnant mothers and families with infants and toddlers. The West location will continue the Winter Amnesty program in their basement. The West is where we will continue to host meals for four weeks each year.
