DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRIES
The First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor, Michigan (UUAA) – a dynamic and caring community – is in search for a Director of Music Ministries to serve as UUAA’s lead conductor, music educator, and music program director.
Our community is the largest Unitarian Universalist congregation in the state of Michigan and a leading voice regionally and nationally in furthering the work of social justice. UUAA is ready for a creative, collaborative leader and programmatic manager who can help our community build on the many accomplishments of our previous highly successful music ministries. We invite you to add your visionary artistry to our own, building a life for you and your family among us, in Ann Arbor – a fun and vibrant college town, and home to the University of Michigan, among other top academic institutions.
Our successful candidate will be a critical member of UUAA’s senior staff, providing creative and visionary leadership to our large and diverse music program, which at present includes the Chalice Singers (our 75+ member adult choir), the Chalice Bells (our handbell choir), the Chalice Sparks (our children’s choir), and other musical ensembles that currently exist and/or our successful candidate may wish to start. Given the breadth and depth of our music programming, significant conducting experience is required as are skills related to the financial and logistical management of a large, multi-faceted music program.
UUAA strives to embody diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) commitments in its employment practices, institutional culture, and its relationships within and outside our community. Applicants holding diverse identities and/or life experiences are warmly encouraged to apply.
Salary range: $70,000-80,000/annum full-time plus benefits and reasonable moving expenses, if living outside the area/region. Start date: August 1, 2023. This position may be filled flexibly as full-time or part-time, depending on the needs of our preferred candidate.
Application process: Interested candidates should contact the Music Search Committee for an initial, informal phone/zoom conversation to explore the potential fit with our community’s spiritual-religious values and work culture. Please email the search committee at email@example.com in order to schedule such. After this preliminary conversation, strong candidates will be invited to submit a letter of interest, CV/resume, audio and/or video samples of one’s conducting work, and professional references. Between January and March 2023, the search committee will review submitted materials, conduct zoom interviews of highly qualified candidates, and subsequently invite our top two finalists to Ann Arbor for in-person interviews. The position will remain open until filled, with applications accepted on a rolling basis, though we anticipate making a hiring decision by mid-to-late April 2023, at the latest. Applicants should contact the Music Search Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org, or Senior Minister, the Reverend Manish Mishra-Marzetti, at email email@example.com or phone: 734-665-6158, ext. 107.
