Food Justice: Bring Your Food Scraps to Church!
You already know that food waste is a huge contributor to climate change. But did you know that you can bring your food scraps to church? Fruits, veggies, coffee grounds, egg shells, meat, and dairy are all welcome here!
A new program at UUAA, with My Green Michigan, converts food waste and scraps into compost. For those who don’t compost at home, you can now bring those scraps to church and add them to our collection! Here’s how:
- Collect the materials in a compostable waste bag at home during the week, then bring that bag to UUAA on Sunday.
- On Sundays, you can drop your bag into one of the 5-gallon buckets we have clearly marked for this purpose, located at the front entrance of the building.
- Any time, you can drop those bags right into the bright green My Green Michigan bins, located outside the west building (kitchen) entrance.
- Only organic and compostable material can be added to the system.
