Food Justice: Eating for Mental Health

The food we eat affects our mental health, and much of our sense of well-being has to do with our gut. The standard American diet, which is high in saturated fat (from meats, cheese, and processed food), high in sugar and sodium, and low in fiber, can cause gut dysbiosis leading to poor mental health. Conversely, diets rich in fiber (from fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, and legumes) and healthy fats (from nuts, seeds, and olive oil) can elevate moods and support a healthy mental state.
