Food Justice: Impact of Rising Food Costs

As inflation continues to impact most Americans, it’s having a dire effect on local emergency food providers and those dependent on their services. Rising costs of food and other necessities and an increase in operating expenses have created greater challenges.

Community needs have increased at the same time the government allowed supplemental SNAP benefits to expire; this directly affected some 750,000 households in Michigan. Compounded with increasingly higher grocery bills,  it’s no wonder that support agencies are reporting a significant uptick in visitors needing assistance. Read more.
