Green Corner: Don’t Blow It!

Whether you love them or hate them, there’s no debate that leaf blowers are extremely harmful to the environment and to humans’ hearing. Traditional gas -powered blowers use outmoded technology, emitting as much as 200 times more greenhouse gases than car engines. In only a half-hour of use, these small two-stroke engines pollute as much as a Ford F-150 pickup driven 3,900 miles! Electric blowers are better, but they are only as green as their power source, and they still damage the insect/leaf ecosystem. Isn’t it time to switch to electric? Or better yet, don’t blow it! Use a rake and broom and get some exercise, and your neighbors’ ears will thank you for it. Learn more.
