Green Corner: Kroger and Meijer Recycle

You probably know Kroger and Meijer both have recycling bins for used plastic shopping bags, but did you know you can also recycle other flexible plastic in those bins? Shrink-wrap, bubble wrap, newspaper sleeves, bread bags, etc. are all accepted. Kroger also partners with TerraCycle in a free mail-in recycling program for Kroger brand products’ wrapping, such as chip and frozen food bags. Kroger sends plastic to be made into composite decking and park benches, etc. They plan to eliminate providing plastic shopping bags by 2025.

Best Action: Use canvas bags, buy things with less packaging, and talk to store managers about eliminating plastic bags. For more info, click on Kroger or Meijer.
